Hundreds of seedlings have been successfully propagated from cuttings collected on Chalice-owned farmland. The work involves trials in the propagation of various hard to grow species, which form a significant part of the native ecosystems on Chalice property and the surrounding areas. This work is part of the Gonneville Restoration Project, aimed at increasing habitat availability for wildlife and connecting remnant areas of vegetation on farmland with the adjacent areas of native vegetation in the Julimar area.
A seed collection and storage program is underway to ensure a diverse range of plant species can be grown in any restoration areas. A pilot restoration site has been identified adjacent to the Julimar State Forest and will be used to test different restoration techniques and success measures, which in time will then be rolled out across larger-scale restoration efforts.
