PhD Project Opportunity – As part of Chalice’s biodiversity commitment of no net-loss of species or habitat diversity as a result of the Gonneville Project, we are pleased to support a new PhD project based near the Julimar State Forest.

Chuditch (western quoll) are nationally threatened and survive in a range of habitats in the southwest of Western Australia. They are threatened by land clearing and predation by intporduced cats and foxes.

The opportunity will examine the ecology of chuditch in fragmented forests within a farmland matrix, and explore actions to encourage their return to regenerating habitats. The research will help guide restoration design and track restoration success for farmland farmland areas. The project will involve substantial time in the field including trapping, radio-collaring and tracking, and remote camera trapping.

This is an important collaboration with Chalice Mining the University of WA, University of New South Wales and Syrinx Environmental. We encourage interested and eligible locals to apply. Inquiries should be sent to Katherine Moseby at k.moseby@unsw.edu.au. Scholarship applications open in January 2025 for a mid 2025 start.
