Chalice provided funding to the Julimar Volunteer Bushfire Brigade to support upgrades to their facilities, improving the safety of entry and exit procedures at the fire station.
Funding provided through the Chalice Community Investment Program, allowed the volunteer brigade to enhance the concrete apron around the station which is used for skills training and maintenance, and assisted with sealing the access driveway onto Julimar Road.
Located within close proximity to the Gonneville Project Site, the Julimar Volunteer Bushfire Brigade is one of 5 volunteer bushfire brigades in the Toodyay area, an area known for being a bushfire hotspot. The volunteers and support crew at Julimar Volunteer Fire Brigade are kept busy throughout the summer months, making high quality facilities even more important to allow safe, efficient responses when they are needed.
“Attracting and retaining volunteers can be a challenge” said Rob Koch, Community Emergency Services Manager for the Shire of Toodyay. We provide a key service to the community, and we want to be able to provide volunteers with good facilities to support training, and encourage community membership. The enhanced facilities we have been able to construct go a long way towards doing this.”
