The Gonneville Project

The Gonneville Project is a critical minerals mine development, located on Chalice-owned farmland approximately 70km north-east of Perth in the Wheatbelt region. The project hosts a deposit of critical minerals essential for technologies that will help address climate change.

We know water is our most precious resource. Water quality and supply is an important concern for the whole community.
During October and November Chalice is conducting a ‘water survey’ to understand the surface and ground water within 10kms of the Gonneville Project.
The survey data creates a baseline that enables us to better understand how we plan mitigations for impacts in the region.
Technically speaking, we are doing a ‘beneficial water use assessment for downstream users’ but in simplest terms we are keen to know where water is sourced and how it is being used;

  • Do you have a dam, bore or creek on your property?
  • Does it connect to your house, yards or shed?
  • Is the water used in the kitchen, garden, to flush the outdoor loo or for fire protection

The quick survey will bring local knowledge and science together for positive water health data and better environmental outcomes.

Before a mine can be developed, the Gonneville Project must receive the approval of State and Commonwealth Governments. The Project is subject to comprehensive environmental assessment to evaluate the details of the proposed mine, its potential impacts and how those impacts will be managed. The process is expected to take approximately three years.
More information can be found under the Environmental Approvals tab or within our information sheets.

Chalice has engaged independent consultants, JLL, to contact private landholders along potential water and power infrastructure corridors.  From June to August, dedicated JLL Landholder Representatives, will be seeking information to support land access for field investigations which are required to take place during Spring (September to November). If you have been contacted by a JLL consultant and wish to validate their credentials or have any questions, please contact us directly via the Contact Us page.
